Purpose Discovery Workshop: The New Hire Experience

This past May, Human Resources Generalist, Gianna Polcari, joined the Embrace Home Loans family. Recently, Polcari participated in a Purpose Discovery Workshop offered by the Talent Development Team. She shares her insights on the experience from the perspective of a new hire in July's eNews.

1. What did you enjoy most about the Purpose Discovery Workshop?

I enjoyed that I got the chance to meet other people in the company. I also enjoyed opening up about myself, and listening to other employees do the same. I feel fortunate that I got to know many of my coworkers on a more personal level. The fact that we made the workshop a judgement-free, confidential zone was very important to me as well and greatly enhanced my experience.

2. What insights did you gain?

I would say I learned a lot about myself and was able to figure out what means the most to me in life and in the workplace. I enjoyed the questions that were asked because they made me think outside the box and opened my mind more than if I was just to figure out my purpose on my own.

3. What surprised you about this experience?

I was surprised to see that there were many similarities between myself and the other people in the group. I was shocked at how open I was able to be with people I have never met before, and I felt completely comfortable doing so.

4. How will it impact your work (and how has it so far)?

This workshop has impacted my work in a very positive way! I am very open to new projects and tasks that would normally make me uncomfortable. I have learned from these new experiences, and as a result, I have gained more confidence in the workplace.

5. Would you encourage someone else to participate in a PD Workshop? If so, why?

Yes, definitely. I think it is a great way to learn a little bit more about what your true values are at work and at home. It was also a great way to meet new people in the company and get acquainted on a more personal level. It was a very eye-opening experience and I think it would benefit anyone who would be interested in finding their purpose in life.

When I first came to Embrace, I was so excited because I immediately felt the environment was positive and community-oriented. Everyone I've met has been nothing but friendly and personable. I have learned a lot and have developed many new skills in such a short time. I've especially honed my public speaking skills. I was never the type of person who wanted to speak in front of groups, but I have now learned to be comfortable with giving tours to new hires and showing them how much Embrace has to offer.

This is the first job I have had where I actually enjoy coming to work! I feel as though I am contributing to the well-being of the employees, and I want to be there for anyone who has questions or concerns.

Embrace had already given me such a strong purpose in the workplace, so attending June's Purpose Discovery Workshop seemed like the logical next step in my personal and professional development. I am very thankful for everything this company offers, and I am so happy to be a part of it!
