Coaching: The Big Picture - Defining the "Big A" Agenda

The Embrace Talent Development Team offers various enrichment programs designed to guide employees as they strive for personal and professional excellence.

Amongst those programs is the Embrace Coaching Program led by Talent Development's Sales Coach, John Bushee.

Many of us strive to have a more balanced approach to how we serve and interact with others. The Embrace Coaching Program is designed to provide that balance by coaching the whole person, and supporting our existing coaches using the latest tools of the coaching trade.

To aid you in your success, we are committed to having sixty-one managers certified by the International Coach Federation as professional coaches in November 2017.

This June, John shares a glimpse into what employees stand to gain when they take advantage of the Coaching Program at Embrace Home Loans.

Mind if I ask you a few questions?

  • What do you want your life to be like?

  • What are you working to become?

  • What is present for you when you feel most alive?

  • What is your vision for your life?

For most of us, these seem like big, heavy questions - and they should.

We don't stop to think about these things very often, so when we do, it can be overwhelming.

For many of us these "big picture" thoughts can be lost in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives as we react to events both at home and on the job.

By answering these questions for ourselves, we might begin to articulate what's called the "Big A" Agenda, or that which we would like our lives to be. It's the big picture of what we all want for ourselves, and how we see ourselves as we interact with others. The "Big A" Agenda illustrates what life could be like when it is lived to its fullest potential.

The "Big A" Agenda is how you see your life lived when it is in alignment with your values; full of action that provides meaning to what you do each day. In short, it's how you want to "be."

There is also a "Little A" Agenda. It's not less important than the "Big A" agenda, but it is different. The "Little A" is tied to the actions we take on a daily basis, the goals we establish to measure the efficacy of our actions, and the accountability we accept that puts time limits on our various responsibilities and projects. The "Little A" Agenda lays out our next steps forward in a real and transformative way.

So "Big A" is "Being" and "Little A" is "Doing" – when these two things conflict, life can be difficult, at best. However, when balance is achieved between them, these two agendas become the engine that spurs personal and professional growth and success. Suddenly, reaching our goals and highest personal potential becomes a reality.

Once we have developed the "Big A" Agenda, we have a clear view of the fulfilling life we would like to pursue. From there, the "Little A" Agenda actually supports our efforts to make the "Big A" Agenda come to fruition.

At Embrace, we've designed the Embrace Coaching Program and personal development sessions including Purpose Discovery and Values Workshops to help our professionals achieve their "Big A" Agendas and begin thinking of the "Little A" Agendas that will make their dreams of success possible. Just another benefit of joining the Embrace family!
